What Is Vestibular Rehabilitation?

Vestibular rehabilitation functions by enhancing the balance system to address impairments resulting from vestibular conditions, focusing on coordination between the eyes, joint-based balance sensors and the ears. Vestibular physiotherapy addresses issues stemming from dysfunction in the vestibular system, involving a comprehensive assessment of the eyes, ears, and balance sensors. To treat conditions, we build in a number of therapy techniques, including balance exercises, fall prevention strategies, combined head and eye movement exercises and gait re-education, offering you a secure route to better health.

Assessment

The Dix-Hallpike assessment is one of the assessments that you may expect and it diagnoses the presence of crystals within the ear canals through a series of movement tests. During assessment, you’ll be asked to lay in several positions while your eyes are monitored. There’s nothing to prepare, and the test takes just a few minutes, and, if positive, can be treated immediately with an Epley manoeuvre.
